Josie is a sweet, older lady with lots of love and life left in her. She is an amazing survivor- she survived being outside as a stray for an unknown amount of time, she survived her last day in the shelter when ARCBCR pulled her that morning, and she just recently survived her heartworm treatment and is recovering beautifully!

She is great on the leash and never pulls. She knows sit, come, stay, and adorably stands on her hind legs for a treat! She will gently paw at you if she feels like she's not getting enough attention. She loves a good squeaky toy and will destroy squeakers in a hot second! She settles down very nicely and likes to have a quiet corner to sleep. She loves people and other dogs, but is a little shy initially and may take a little time to come out of her shell. Once you have her trust though, you will have it for life! She gives great hugs and is the perfect companion dog. She has beautiful, silky black fur with cute spotted feet and a white belly. She is is around 50 lbs.

She is living with two other dogs (one boy, one girl, both around 3 years old) in her foster home and gets along well with them. She is especially drawn to women but would also do well with a gentle, patient guy.

Josie has not met children in her foster home, but we feel she would do well with children over age 5. She has also not been cat tested, but did not react to a cat at the vet's office when there for a check-up. She is house and crate trained but prefers to roam freely. She is a great eater and loves to be outside, hanging out in the sunshine on the deck. Josie is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and is on heartworm and flea prevention.

Josie is being fostered for ARC-BCR in the Charlottesville, VA area. For more information about Josie, please contact her foster mom at or you can apply to adopt below.
