Princess Leia is a beautiful young border collie looking for an active home. She is a little over 2 years old and around 45 pounds. She has the energy and effervescence of youth, while being well on her way to becoming a composed adult. Leia is a smart girl that needs physical activity, mental stimulation and companionship. She can become bored easily and will then find her own entertainment such as your shoes, toys and chasing deer. So, a good supply of indestructible toys is a must, as is a closet for your shoes and a large fenced yard. Planned, high energy, activities are a plus.

Leia loves both human and canine companionship and will do best in a home with other playmates of both species. Cats are okay with her – but she has been known to tempt them into playing with her when things get boring. She is also learning to be crate trained!

Here are some of the things her foster mom has found out about Leia… she doesn’t bolt if she gets loose; recalls nicely to her name, “come” or a whistle (if not distracted by deer); she knows go potty, no, not yours, out, give, take it, leave it, crate up; she responds to “wait” when going out or coming in a door; she allows her feet to be wiped after coming inside and she has even learned to lie down and wait; she pulls on a leash so will need a little work with that.

Leia loves affection! She is a “leaner” and lapdog that will use her charm to get you to pet and hug her. And who can resist that! However, this affection will need to be moderated with leadership and discipline so that it doesn’t transform into a misaligned behavior.

Leia is spayed, utd on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick medications. She is being fostered in Mineral, VA by the Atlantic Region Central Border Collie Rescue.
